'DYSLEXIA' 'This video gives an excellent overview of dyslexia. Painful issues are tackled head on. Cameos of learning, emotional and behavioural difficulties are explored, yet a positive attitude is engendered providing avenue of hope. The problems caused by a frequently unsympathetic educational establishment, which has condemned many individuals as lazy or stupid, are noted: and the effects of the subsequent emotional damage to them and to society itself. Conversely, the benefits of both mature and young people are shown. Emphasis is placed on the need for early diagnosis and specially trained teachers using multisensory methods. This programme is a must for any library, which may have to answer the question 'What is Dyslexia?' The format is most apt for the topic and should be viewed by anyone requiring an introduction, from trainee and practising teachers to parents. Dyslexic individuals themselves would find it of interest. It might also encourage librarians to consider how they accommodate their dyslexic readers.' Rosemary Lonsdale - Audio-visual Librarian |

'AUTISM' "A sensitively made documentary that portrays children with autism over
a wide age range. The programme succeeds in conveying the enormous strain
autism places on families and the terrible shortage of specialised units,
schools and adult centres for people with autism." "This film should be essential viewing for the politicians and bureaucrats
who decide where, in disability, the money will be spent" "We have found "Autism: A World Apart" to be a very moving and useful
film." |
|||
'THE DEVIL'S MEN' "Two giants of horror [Peter Cushing and Donald Pleasence] give an amazing
performance in this chilling and unsettling film" "This film will no doubt go on as long as Cinema itself, with one great
star trying to outdo the other" |
|||
'THE STEAL' "The Steal" might not be a great success at the box office, but with
a cast of big names as impressive as this one, it's guaranteed to be a
smash on TV.' This really was a triumph of casting. |

'GREAT RUSSIAN WRITERS' "This series is so informative, you feel as if you have learnt more in
each half-hour episode, than you would reading at least two books on the
subject." |
|||
'GREAT RUSSIAN COMPOSERS' "In 'Great Russian Composers' the series makers have succeeded in telling
us everything we need to know about these great men." |
|||
'THE DESTRUCTION OF TROY AND THE ADVENTURES OF ODYSSEUS' "It is clear by now that teachers really appreciated it and we are
informed that the children watched 'The Odyssey' with fascination and
delight. The episodes are clear cut and easily understood. The animation
is excellent." |
|||
'THE WHITE SWAN' "…it is a thing of ravishing beauty with an
old-fashioned charm that bears the master’s hallmark" |
